Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Validate data transfer by supporting the accurate migration of financial data from the legacy system to the new agency software, learning best practices in data integrity and financial system transitions.
- Record transactions in the legacy system to verify payment accuracy and assist in closing old balances, developing an understanding of financial reporting accuracy and system reconciliations.
- Assist in preparing general journal entries for various business transactions, gaining exposure to accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
- Support reconciliation of payables with our binding authority to ensure accurate bordereaux payments, learning how financial obligations are managed in an insurance agency setting.
- Prepare and review expense reclassification entries in the agency software while developing analytical skills in financial categorization and reporting.
- Conduct balance sheet account reconciliations by identifying, researching, and assisting in resolving discrepancies. The intern will gain experience in financial statement accuracy, variance analysis, and compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Process and reconcile claims and survey payables in accordance with financial regulations, insurance syndicate policies, and company guidelines. This provides insight into regulatory compliance in financial transactions.
- Document accounting processes and journal entry procedures to ensure consistency and accessibility of reference materials. The intern will learn the importance of internal controls and standardized documentation.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college of business undergraduate program
- Must be able to work full-time in Miami, FL during the summer and potential opportunity to extend internship to work part-time during the school year
- Must have strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls; and talk or hear.
