Position Overview
As the National Sales Manager - Lumber Products, you will oversee existing lumber accounts generating over $10M in annual revenue while developing new growth opportunities. This role combines relationship management, strategic negotiation, and business development to expand our lumber trading business.
Key Responsibilities
- Account Management: Maintain and grow relationships with existing lumber clients, ensuring continuous supply, proper inventory management, and timely delivery.
- Program Execution: Oversee long-standing retail lumber distribution programs (15 years), managing the entire supply chain from supplier to buyer.
- Strategic Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, volume requirements, and timing with both suppliers and buyers to maximize profitability while accommodating market fluctuations.
- Business Development: Identify and pursue growth opportunities by introducing adjacent products, cultivating new channel partners, and leveraging industry relationships.
- Supply Chain Optimization: Analyze and manage inventory levels to ensure efficient resource utilization and minimize costs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with leadership teams to leverage resources and relationships across the organization.
Qualifications & Skills Required
- Proven experience in lumber trading, distribution, or related industry
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing high-value accounts and programs
- Understanding of lumber market dynamics and pricing strategies
- Knowledge of transportation logistics (LTL, Rail, Trucking)
- Proficiency with ERP systems and business software
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Problem-solving skills with a focus on cost-effectiveness and efficiency
Preferred
- Experience with secondary manufacturing and warehousing operations
- Track record of developing new business opportunities
- Familiarity with quality control processes for lumber products
- Understanding of big box retail requirements and operations
