Accounts Payable / Payroll Specialist
Position Overview
Jewett Construction is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable / Payroll Specialist to manage vendor payments, payroll processing, and financial record-keeping. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of invoices and payroll, compliance with tax regulations, and supports overall financial operations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, and capable of handling sensitive financial data with confidentiality and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Process vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy, approvals, and proper coding to accounts.
- Manage payment processing (ACH, checks, credit card transactions) and reconcile vendor statements.
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and respond to vendor inquiries.
- Maintain AP records and documentation for audits and reporting.
Payroll Processing
- Accurately process payroll for employees, ensuring timely and compliant wage payments.
- Verify timesheets, deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings.
- Assist in payroll system upgrades or migrations as needed.
- Maintain employee payroll records and resolve payroll-related inquiries.
General Accounting & Compliance
- Assist with month-end close activities related to payroll , AP and GL.
- Prepare reports and reconciliations for internal financial review.
- Ensure compliance with Company policies, labor laws, and IRS regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3 years in accounts payable, payroll processing, or accounting.
- Knowledge of Payroll & AP Systems: Experience with payroll platforms and accounting software (e.g., Sage, MassPay, Procore or similar).
- Attention to Detail: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive payroll and financial data securely.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll tax compliance.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with payroll migrations or system upgrades is a plus.
- Knowledge of construction industry payroll and AP processes a plus.
