The Life Skills Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of a residential program supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of employees
- Is available on-call to handle urgent matters that arise at the home
- Fosters good community relationships acting as JCL ambassador
- Conducts interviews with applicants for employment
- Conducts regular staff meetings; attends supervisors’ meetings
- Oversees regulatory compliance and conducts staff training
- Schedules staff and ensures minimum staffing levels
- Oversees home and vehicle(s) cleaning and maintenance
- Oversees compliance with Department of Developmental Services contract
- Oversees planning, purchasing and preparation of meals
- Oversees residents and household finances
- Writes reports
- Communicates client health status, behavioral and social needs with team members
- Oversees residents medical appointments
- Ensures appropriate medical treatment for medical incidents, injuries, illness, or behavioral/psychiatric episodes
- Obtains and/or maintains DDS Medication Administration Certification
- Ensures staff’s compliance with all required in-service training including DDS Medication Administration Certification
- Provides staff with ongoing feedback about job performance and periodically writes performance evaluations.
- Assists residents in activities of daily living (ADL’s)
- Assists residents in the implementation of Individual Plan goals
- Perform any other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and liability free driving record
- Must obtain and/or maintain all DDS and JCL certifications and trainings including DDS Medication Administration Certification
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred
- Demonstrates good observation skills
- Demonstrates organizational skills
- Demonstrates good leadership skills
- Clear writing skills with good grammar
- Demonstrates basic computer skills
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a wide variety of clients’, their family members, staff, and community members
- Ability and willingness to assist residents in all areas of personal hygiene in a dignified manner
- Ability and willingness to be friendly, respectful, patient, encouraging, optimistic, energetic and nurturing.
- Willingness and ability to accept and carry out new tasks, assignments or changes in familiar routines.
