We are currently looking for a CASUAL Activities Assistant for our Weinberg Terrace Personal Care facility.
Weekend Availability is a must!
Job Summary:
The Activity Assistant is responsible for assisting the Activities Coordinator in implementing activity programming for Personal Care residents in order to meet their social, religious and psychosocial needs. The Activities Assistant must understand and carry out the wellness holistic philosophy of the Jewish Association on Aging. The Activities Assistant must have a personal commitment to promote and advocate dignity, respect, individual rights and a feeling of self worth for each resident. He/she must have the ability to work independently and cooperatively with other disciplines. Flexibility in adapting to the changing needs of the residents is essential.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct evening and weekend activities independently according to the activity calendar
- Assist in monitoring activity supply inventory.
- Keep the activity area clean and organized including cupboards, closets and countertops.
- Remind residents to attend programs by visiting them in their rooms.
- Assist residents in getting to activities.
- Must be knowledgeable about fire and disaster procedures and participate in monthly fire drill.
- Be alert to fire hazards and observe and enforce the facility’s no smoking policy.
- Communicate with residents in a simple, concise, adult and respectful manner.
- Observe the policies and rules of the facility, as described in the Employee Handbook including, but not limited to, Dress Code, Code of Conduct and Attendance Policies.
- Treat information regarding residents, families and staff in a confidential manner.
- Participate in staff development programs such as attending scheduled in-services and annual in-service day.
- Must be physically capable of setting up rooms for programming (moving tables and chairs).
- Follow monthly activity calendar and update activity board as needed.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity to, empathy for, and an interest in the elderly and those with cognitive impairments
Required Education, Training and Experience:
- High School diploma/GED
- Ability to read and write and to carry out instructions.
Covid vaccinations required. Exceptions only as required by law.
