Description

Position Summary: Jewish Family Service is seeking a compassionate and caring individual to join our Food Pantry Team and assist clients from diverse backgrounds. The Weinberg Food Pantry Operations Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the pantry, ensuring an efficient, safe, and welcoming environment for clients, volunteers, and staff. This role includes overseeing pantry logistics, supporting client services, maintaining inventory standards, and occasionally assisting with mobile pantry operations. A successful candidate will be flexible, detail-oriented, and committed to providing compassionate service. This position includes driving a large truck, moving pallets, and lifting heavy food products.

Our work week is 37.5 hours.

Salary: $25.00 to $28.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Inventory Management & Product Handling

  • Manage product intake, inventory, and distribution.
  • Pick up products as scheduled.
  • Weigh and record all incoming product.
  • Ensure garage inventory is organized, rotated, and orderly.
  • Stock and front pantry shelves prior to distribution days.
  • Maintain orderly, stocked, and rotated refrigerators and freezers; log temperatures daily.
  • Receive and store monthly FBR and TEFAP orders.
  • Receive Push produce orders, prioritize fragile items, and properly store pallets.
  • Turn in all receipts for truck gas, maintenance, and food purchases to the Pantry Manager the same day as purchase.
  • Ensure the pantry truck is filled with diesel and DEF as needed.
  • Clean and organize the front check-in desk; restock supplies as necessary.
  • Coordinate regularly with pantry staff and the supervisor on inventory levels and reporting.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and audits as requested.
  • Receive and record product deliveries.
  • Deliver pantry food and other special items as scheduled.
  • Deliver and pick up barrels from area synagogues and businesses.

Pantry Operations

  • Set up for pantry operations, including placing signage, charging the tablet, and opening Waitwhile; close Waitwhile at the end of operations.
  • Conduct client intakes, recertifications, and data entry; address other client needs as they arise.
  • Adapt pantry layout and processes in emergency situations to ensure safety.
  • Provide ad hoc support as needed, including set-up, operation, and clean-up on pantry days.
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment for clients and volunteers.
  • Answer client questions and assist with check-in.
  • Coordinate services and operations with the Pantry Supply Coordinator.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, distribution, and inventory regulations.
  • Occasionally provide coverage support for mobile food pantry drivers by traveling to field locations.
  • Discard spoiled produce and ensure all trash is removed from the building.
  • Patrol the parking lot for unreturned carts.
  • Ensure clients receive their IDs and securely store any unclaimed IDs.
  • At the end of each shift, confirm all doors are locked and all lights are off.

Community Life Programs

  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of Community Life and standalone programs, including:
  • Passover Program
  • Thanksgiving Program
  • School Supply Program
  • High Holiday and Spring Food Drives
  • Work with the Food Security Programs Manager to meet all stakeholder requirements, including timelines, registration, distribution, and reporting.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Support and supervise volunteers during pantry operations and special events.
  • Ensure volunteers have clear roles, direction, and a positive engagement experience.
  • Provide volunteer orientation and on-the-job training to promote food safety and efficient service.

Agency & Community Engagement

  • Participate in agency risk and safety committees.
  • Build and cultivate relationships with local schools and synagogues.
  • Network with and visit other food pantries across the metro area.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Driving Requirements:

  • Ability to drive a large delivery truck.
  • Must have a good driving record, current vehicle insurance, and be at least 25 years of age.

Physical Requirements:

  • Comfortable with physical activity, including lifting to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull, and carry items as needed to move donated food, transfer groceries, handle equipment, and assist with loading and unloading vehicles.
  • An agility test is required. This is paid for by JFS after being authorized.

Experience & Skills:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Customer service or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to work both independently and collaboratively; brainstorming and teamwork are essential.
  • Ability to build relationships and networks within the community.

  • Ability to understand and empathize with clients in crisis while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Commitment to equity, dignity, and respectful service to diverse communities.

Work Environment:

  • Flexibility required; some weekend and holiday hours may be requested.
