Description
The Medical Receptionist is often the first Northpoint representative a patient speaks to or meets. A caller’s and/or visitor’s first impression of the agency is often set here. It is imperative that this employee’s voice on the phone be friendly, professional and welcoming while determining the caller’s needs and routing the phone call politely and efficiently. This role provides support to the medical staff by providing caring, personalized and efficient handling of patients, medical records, supply management and other duties as assigned. This position supports, promotes and furthers our goal of providing the highest standards of culturally relevant and sensitive professional service consistent with our mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answers telephone, greets patients and visitors, route calls and provides general assistance to staff in Spanish or English, providing excellent customer service
- Coordinates patient calls, while effectively managing the appointment schedule for multiple providers
- Evaluates daily schedules to accommodate and promote efficient patient flow and minimize late or missed appointments, including patient reminders.
- Processes patient registration and consent documents
- Verifies demographics and insurance, properly documenting in the electronic health record
- Provides appropriate feedback to the medical team, follow-up information to patients and correctly inputs data, as required
- Collects and process co-pays and other patient payments and performs daily closeout process
- Checks patients out and makes appointments as indicated
- Assists with referrals and authorizations, as needed
- Ensures availability of treatment information by retrieving and filing patient records
- Utilizes electronic health record for other tasks
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answers patients' questions; maintains a clean and presentable front office and reception area
- Helps patients in distress during office emergencies
- Assists in orientation of new personnel
- Performs various administrative tasks per leader’s direction
- Attends onsite and offsite meetings, as required
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge with OSHA and any other regulatory requirements.
- Maintains current Basic Life Support certification and uses CPR skills
- Adheres to HIPAA Privacy Standards.
Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is required
- Excellent verbal and written communication

- Proficiency in relevant computer hardware and software, as well as EHR systems, and other standard medical office equipment
- Knowledgeable of Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance policies and procedures and is familiar with obtaining information from health plans.
