Security Manager

We’re the New Terminal One (NTO) at John F. Kennedy International Airport, a bold and exciting project to develop a world class, international terminal that can serve as a global gateway to the New York metropolitan area and the greater United States. The $9 billion first phase is the largest single asset project financing in US history. 

It will be built on sites now occupied by Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and the former Terminal 3, where it will anchor JFK’s south side. Construction will take place in phases, with the first phase, including the new arrivals and departures hall and first set of new gates, expected to open in 2026.

NTO will set a new standard for design and service and aspires to obtain a global Top 5 Skytrax rating as one of the finest ten airport terminals in the world.

Who You Are:

You will interface with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, U.S. Custom and Border Protection, Transportation Security Administration, service companies, and other terminal stakeholders. This position is responsible for overseeing crisis management and developing response plans.

What We Are Looking For:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated terminal security manager to oversee and manage all security operations at the New Terminal One (NTO) at John F. Kennedy Airport. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of guests, employees, and airport property, while also maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves leading a team of security personnel therefore requiring the candidate to have a strong background in airport or aviation security, excellent leadership skills, and an in-depth understanding of security policies and procedures.

What You Will Do:

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assist the Director of Safety and Security in the development and implementation of all security programs within the NTO safety and security portfolio
• Supervise and coordinate daily security operations to ensure security standards are met, including screening processes, patrols, curbside management and emergency response protocols.
• Ensure all security procedures comply with local, national, and international aviation security regulations, including those established by TSA (Transportation Security Administration), ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), and other relevant bodies.
• Provide guidance and support to maintain high-performance standards. Conduct regular training sessions and drills for staff to handle security incidents effectively.
• Develop and implement emergency response plans, ensuring the team is prepared for incidents such as evacuations, bomb threats, active shooters, and other security breaches. Coordinate with airport and local law enforcement in crises.
• Conduct regular security inspections, audits, risk assessments, and vulnerability analysis to identify and address potential security threats. Develop and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Work closely with airport management, airlines, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to maintain a cohesive security strategy and resolve issues promptly.
• Develop and update security policies, procedures, and protocols to reflect best practices and evolving security needs.
• Maintain detailed records of security incidents, compliance audits, and staff performance. Generate reports for senior management and regulatory bodies as required.
• Demonstrate flexibility with work hours to accommodate the dynamic needs of airport security operations.
• Work hours may vary and are subject to change based on project deadlines, business needs, and other operational requirements

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:  

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in aviation security, with at least 10 years in a managerial role.
• Experience working effectively in a regulated environment
• Relevant security certifications (e.g., Certified Protection Professional, Airport Security Coordinator Training, Airport Certified Employee Security, etc.) are a plus.
• Investigations and Auditing Knowledge
• Emergency Management and Incident Command Systems experience are a plus
• High school graduation: relevant university or college degree preferred

Where You Will Work:

We are located in Building 111 in Jamacia Queens. As NTO progresses towards its operational phase, your role will transition to the vibrant and dynamic environment of JFK International Airport, where you will be directly involved in the day-to-day activities of this state-of-the-art international terminal.

This role requires a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge and a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seal, which will be obtained and maintained throughout employment. Successful candidates will be subject to a background check and other security clearance procedures. Candidates who cannot obtain and maintain this credential will not be considered for employment.
