JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for field execution of jobsite management including building control and layout, pre-task planning, ordering materials in advance of need, execution of site specific and company health and safety plan, stormwater management, jobsite organization, and direction of JHL craft labor, coordination of subcontractors, jobsite quality control, and various tasks as assigned by Superintendent. The successful candidate will have extensive industry experience that demonstrates excellent understanding of the unique needs and requirements of projects, departments, and systems. The role involves fostering positive long-term relationships with business partners and ensuring the safe, on-time, and quality delivery of the project within budget.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Core Duties / Responsibilities:
- Professionally represents JHL and effectively supports Company strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of civil construction and exceptional jobsite management skills; Delivers on key projects and commitments via professional knowledge and leadership abilities.
- Fosters positive long-term relationships with subcontractors and business partners.
- Aids Superintendent in on-time delivery while maintaining team focus on safety, quality, and budget.
- Fully understands and effectively utilizes drawings, specifications, subcontract agreements and purchase orders.
- Works with Superintendent to effectively manage delivery schedules and material procurement.
- Leads, implements, and enforces jobsite safety requirements and JHL Quality Assurance Program.
- Assists with job set-up, communications, safety compliance, record-keeping, QC and closeout.
- Supports direct reports through regular communication; Develops competencies and skill sets via active engagement in performance management process, employee development, and problem-solving.
- Assist with miscellaneous department duties, administrative tasks, and team initiatives.
- Participate in continuous improvement training programs, including ASTA scheduling, 811 locates, stormwater management, company safety protocols, OSHA standards, WarrantyCore, and HCSS, to enhance skills and promote best practices.
- Assist in the preparation and accuracy of daily reports, ensuring they comprehensively document all key activities, progress, and any issues encountered during the day. This includes verifying that reports reflect accurate data and are submitted in a timely manner.
- Expected to allocate approximately 80% of the workday to field activities, with the remaining 20% spent in the office.
INFRASTRUCTURE SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Assist in overseeing the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and similar civil projects, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Support earthwork operations by coordinating site preparation and grading activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Aid in managing concrete placement and finishing processes, ensuring timely execution and quality control.
- Collaborate with project engineers and field engineers to ensure effective communication and resolution of site-specific challenges.
- Monitor stormwater control measures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and project requirements.
- Facilitate land development tasks, including drainage systems and utility installations, while ensuring environmental best practices are followed.
- Work closely with subcontractors to optimize workflow and maintain project schedules.
- Assist in pre-planning activities to ensure project readiness and efficiency.
- Assist in overseeing quality control (QC) processes by coordinating with project team, 3rd party inspectors, and engineers to ensure all installations meet specified standards.
- Support punchlist creation and manage closeout activities to ensure all project requirements are met before final acceptance.
- Assist in overseeing mining project activities, ensuring compliance with MSHA regulations and mine-specific safety standards to promote a safe working environment.
Education / Experience/ Training:
- High School Diploma / GED.
- Preferred: Education / Experience in Construction Management, or equivalent.
- At least five (5) years’ experience with project leadership in infrastructure construction including strong background in mid-size to large-scale construction projects with proven ability to manage manpower, crews, and overall site organization.
- OSHA 10-Hour certification required; 30-hour preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / TRAVEL:
FIELD: Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather: rain, heat, and loud noises. Up to 10%, and/or daily travel as business requires during scheduled work hours.
Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
