Job Summary
The Purchasing Specialist plays an integral role in our operations as a construction material solution provider. The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for the entire purchasing process, and must have existing relationships with local and out-of-state suppliers. The purchasing agent needs to know how to negotiate with suppliers in order to achieve purchasing terms that benefit our company, while maintaining strong relationships. This position receives and fulfils orders for materials and equipment, purchases from various suppliers, processes all pertinent paperwork, updates and maintains logs, etc. This position requires constant communication with our Project Manager, Superintendents, & our Sales & Design team. This role will work alongside our foreign materials procurement team to optimize costs and meet construction deadlines. Exceptional organizational skills are a must.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Purchase interior and exterior building materials from both domestic and foreign suppliers.
- Negotiate with suppliers to ensure optimal purchasing terms, costs, and shipment dates.
- Coordinate & ensure the accurate and timely fulfillment of material & equipment orders for projects.
- Help to manage the site operations, including delivery timelines and warehousing.
- Update and maintain pricing & inventory tracking systems.
- Update and maintain PO & RO logs.
- Use Square Takeoff to send bids and specs to vendors and subcontractors.
- Timely process all paperwork associated with the purchasing process including PO's and Material Acquisition forms.
- Networking with suppliers and sub-contractors.
- Providing knowledge and training to company team members to ensure construction team knows how to use the materials.
- Understand our products and our market competition in order to position products to overcome these factors.
- Estimate date of delivery to job site, based on knowledge of company’s delivery schedules.
- Review and analyze various design reports to identify purchasing trend potential.
- Research and analyze homeowner material desires based on market information.
- Investigate and resolve claims/problems deliveries, returns and credits.
- Travel 10% locally, occasionally nationally, and/or internationally.
- Perform additional duties as required and or requested.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
· Passion! Passion! Passion! Confidence and motivation to work toward targets.
· Bachelor’s Degree required.
· Two (2) plus years’ experience in purchasing residential construction materials.
· Strong math skills to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, area, and volume.
· Ability to determine solutions for construction team and homeowners.
· Must be results-oriented and able to work both independently and within a team environment.
· Excellent sales and negotiation skills. Demonstrated aptitude for problem solving.
· Good organizational and time management skills.
· Intermediate computer proficiency. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Teams.
· Valid driver’s license.
