Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Controller located in Fairfield, CT. The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial management and accounting operations of JJ Bender. This includes ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing cash flow, and providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The Controller will also monitor and manage spending related to inventory purchases made by the Sales teams, ensuring financial discipline and alignment with company goals. The Controller will work closely with the leadership team to ensure financial stability and operational efficiency, reporting directly to the CEO and the Bender Equity Family Office.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Oversee all accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and company policies.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of financial records.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Develop and monitor the company’s budget, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Analyze financial performance and variances, providing reports and recommendations to leadership.
- Assist in long-term financial planning and forecasting.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Oversee cash management, ensuring adequate liquidity for operations.
- Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, and financing arrangements.
- Optimize working capital by monitoring accounts payable and receivable.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Support audits by preparing necessary documentation and coordinating with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, filings, and reporting requirements.
Operational & Strategic Support
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support business decisions.
- Collaborate with operations and sales teams to assess financial impact of business initiatives.
- Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
