Payroll Specialist

JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with a global manufacturer in search of a Payroll Specialist to join its team!
We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist for a full-time contract position in Charleston, SC. This role requires expertise in U.S. payroll processing, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience working with Canadian payroll. The ideal candidate is well-versed in payroll compliance, experience with generating and interpreting payroll reports. They will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple locations. Additionally, they will have worked in small companies where they wore multiple hats or within complex organizations.
Responsibilities
- Process payroll ensuring accuracy and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Utilize ADP and Novatime (or similar payroll/timekeeping systems) to manage payroll processing, reporting, and reconciliations.
- Maintain payroll records, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes.
- Handle payroll-related inquiries from employees and collaborate with HR and Finance teams to resolve issues.
- Ensure compliance with multi-state and payroll tax laws, including garnishments, benefits deductions, and tax filings.
- Assist with year-end payroll processing, including W-2s and other tax-related documents.
- Identify and implement payroll process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Generate, analyze, and interpret payroll reports to track overtime trends, payroll expenses, and compensation data.
- Aggregate payroll data to provide insights for leadership on labor costs, forecasting, and compliance trends.
- Work with HR and Finance teams to review payroll metrics and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Requirements
- 5 years of payroll experience, preferably in a multi-state and/or multi-country payroll environment.
- Experience with ADP and Novatime (or similar payroll systems) is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of U.S. and ideally Canadian payroll regulations, taxes, and compliance.
- Experience working in a small company where employees wore multiple hats or within a highly complex organization.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to interpret payroll data and provide actionable insights related to overtime, compensation trends, and payroll expenses.
- Strong Excel or data analytics skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, or experience with payroll analytics software is a plus).
Salary Range
- $33/hour
