Position Summary
Operates mill or mills and continuous blending system to make products that meet customer specifications. Performs light maintenance on equipment.
Maintains multiple record keeping requirements. Instructs and assists Packer Operators with daily production requirements.
Loads and unloads railcars, van loads, and bulk trucks as necessary.
This position works every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night with every other Wednesday from 6p-6a.
The pay for this position starts at $26.25 with a $1.00 shift incentive.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Operator is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Minimum Standards Required (MMSRs) within his / her sphere of influence.
This may include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.
Responsible for bringing all EH&S incidents or concerns to management for resolution.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Must be able to operate the mill or mills in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Must be able to operate the Blending System in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures which includes calibration of flow meters and weight belts.
- Collects In-Process samples throughout runs and adjusts Mill / Blender based on QC results.
- Must be able to operate the Railcar Puller as well as be familiar with Railcars in general.
- Must be able to use the computer to enter Run Time and Down Time into Oracle at the end of shift.
- Must be able to use Virtual Terminal and Barcode Scanner for Inventory purposes.
- Makes minor repairs on various equipment when possible.
- Assists Maintenance in repairs when needed.
- Performs Preventive Maintenance on a weekly basis (blows out filters and magnets, cleans screens, etc ).
- Basic computer knowledge required.
Record Keeping
- Maintains Daily Emission Inventory Report (GA EPD Air Compliance Program).
- Maintains various log books and forms related to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Must be able to enter both Run Time and Down Time into Oracle at the end of each shift.
Safety / Quality / Environmental
- Must be familiar with and follow all safety policies.
- Must be familiar with ISO standards and procedures.
- Must have basic understanding of SPC charting.
- Responsible for producing a product that meets customer specifications.
- Responsible for collecting In-Process samples throughout each run.
- Responsible for testing APS in the event there is no QC on duty.
- Responsible for checking emission points each day for any possible emissions, documenting findings, and contacting proper personnel with any emission problems.
- Become familiar with the Environmental Management System, Policy, and Procedures. Also the potential consequences of departure from specified Operating Procedures.
- Loading and Unloading Materials
- Must be able to unload Railcars in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure (including the
- release of railcars to CSX as emptied via phone).
- Must be able to load and unload both bulk trucks and van loads in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
Specialized / Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must have basic computer knowledge.
- Prior experience with processing of industrial minerals is preferred.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations : multiplication, addition, and percentages.
- Possess good written and verbal skills with employees at all levels.
- Must be able to read, comprehend and follow SOP’s, MSDS sheets, and the Division Safety Manual as well as various forms used on a daily basis within production.
Ability to safely operate a forklift.
Physical Requirements
- Accessing elevated locations by ladders and or stairs.
- Working with chemicals.
- Managing multiple priorities at one time in a safe and efficient manner.
- Capability of lifting up to 55 lb. bags repeatedly
Working Conditions
Works inside and occasionally outside. Works in a noisy, wet, dirty environment exposed to ambient conditions. PPE requirements include hard hat, safety glasses and steel toed shoes.
Ear plugs are required as posted in the facility. Requires much standing, walking, climbing and occasional lifting of equipment or products.
