What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welding Intern position at JM Longyear LLC?
We are currently seeking candidates for a Welding and Secondary Processes Internship at our location in Gwinn, MI.
About the Role
The Welding Intern is responsible for safe operation of welding equipment to perform various welding and secondary process work. They will have exposure to a variety of different types of equipment used to manufacture medical devices. The goal is not only to help Able Medical Devices execute its production plan but also to learn skills that will enhance the Intern’s base level of knowledge in their chosen field of study. Duties include:
- Apprentice in the welding area to learn and perform welding tasks such as TIG welding, buffing and polishing, basic manual machining using Bridgeport, and possibly laser welding.
- Monitor welding operations to detect defects and adjust welding process as required.
- Document process sheet instructions, prints, tool lists, and inspection procedures to verify sequence and conformance to requirements.
- Accept responsibility for your safety and the safety of others by using safety awareness tools to eliminate unsafe acts and correct unsafe conditions
- Participate in the culture of 5S by creating an orderly work area including machining equipment and tooling
- Perform work on parts in secondary operations including but not limited to the following activities: bead blast, tumble, rework, cleaning, degreasing, polishing, manual machining, deburring, and packaging.
Work Schedule
Hours: 20-40 hours per week, Full-time hours during the summer, then part-time during the school year.
Schedule: Term of internship lasts one year from hire date (Summer plus two semesters), with potential to be extended.
Recommended Education/Experience
Enrolled in the 1 year certificate or 2 year associates degree in Welding or equivalent amount of course work towards Welding
