Sr. Manager of Quality, Safety, Health & Environment (QHSE)


Our team in North Liberty currently has an opening for a Manager of Quality, Safety, Health & Environment remote.

YOUR ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Summary:

In this strategic leadership role, you will champion a culture of continuous improvement and regulatory compliance, shaping policies, practices, and initiatives that protect our workforce, community, customers, and the environment. You will work cross-functionally with leadership, site management, and operations teams to elevate performance, optimize processes, and ensure adherence to all industry standards and best practices. Job Description: 


Strategic Leadership & Continuous Improvement:

  • Develop, implement, and refine QHSE strategies that align with Brenntag Specialties’ business objectives and values.
  • Identify best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workplace safety, environmental responsibility, product stewardship, and overall quality performance.
  • Lead by example, fostering a proactive, collaborative culture that values health, safety, and quality at every organizational level.

Safety & Health Management:

  • Create and execute comprehensive safety management plans, ensuring strict compliance with OSHA, DOT, Hazmat, and related regulations.
  • Investigate and monitor safety performance metrics (e.g., personal injuries, transportation incidents, spills) and use data-driven insights to recommend and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Coordinate safety training programs, ensuring all employees are properly equipped with the knowledge and tools to work safely.
  • Serve as a key liaison with Brenntag North America’s Safety Task Group, sharing insights, solutions, and best practices.

Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Oversee and continuously improve our JOB 7 reporting processes to enhance product quality, minimize misloads, and standardize best practices across facilities.
  • Collaborate with facilities to integrate improvement concepts derived from internal benchmarks, third-party audits, and ERP standards.
  • Stay current on emerging industry regulations, develop implementation guidelines, and ensure readiness and compliance across all locations.
  • Lead regulatory reviews and support facilities in addressing potential governmental violations, maintaining a strong compliance record.

Environmental Stewardship:

  • Manage environmental initiatives and projects, ensuring operations meet or exceed all environmental standards.
  • Identify potential risks affecting environmental performance and champion proactive measures to mitigate impacts on air, water, and soil quality.
  • Rapidly communicate any changes that could affect environmental reserves, cash flow, or compliance status, ensuring full transparency with senior management.

Crisis Management & Emergency Response:

  • Direct the development and execution of crisis communication plans and emergency response protocols.
  • Guide site teams through training exercises, ensuring a high level of preparedness for potential environmental, health, or safety incidents.

Product Stewardship & Responsible Distribution:

  • Serve as the primary operational and safety representative in industry associations such as NACD.
  • Uphold and advance the NACD Responsible Distribution Program’s principles, integrating these standards into daily operations.
  • Evaluate new products and processes, ensuring that the handling and selling of chemicals are conducted responsibly and safely.

YOUR PROFILE

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in QHSE, ideally within the chemical or manufacturing industry.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing safety and quality programs, conducting audits, and achieving strong regulatory compliance.
  • Comprehensive understanding of OSHA, DOT, Hazmat, and other relevant regulations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to inspire teams and influence change.
  • High attention to detail, strategic thinking abilities, and a passion for driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
