Failure Analysis Lab Tech
- 8-9-month contract to start, possibility to extend or convert (no guarantee)
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, normal business hours
- 100% onsite at “3601 E University Dr, Phoenix, AZ 85034”
- Need at least 4-5 years of experience in a similar lab environment uses tools and processes listed below:
- Must have experience in analysis of PCB assemblies and similar electrical component.
- Experience in assisting engineering department for set up and executing of DOE, (Designs of Experiments).
- Must have experience in conducting investigations on failed components/products while utilizing specialized equipment. The lab uses instruments such as cross-sectional polishers, SEM (scanning electron microscope), DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), microscopes, x-ray, rheology, etc.
- Ability to understand schematics and use PCB layout viewers to locate components and soler joint locations.

Job Summary:
The Engineering Failure Analysis Lab Is seeking an experienced FA lab technician to help in failure analysis of PCB assemblies and similar electrical components. The FA Lab Technician is responsible for conducting detailed investigations on failed components or products, utilizing specialized equipment and techniques to identify the root cause of malfunctions, by performing tasks like sample preparation, operating analytical tools like SEM or FIB, data collection, and generating comprehensive reports to support corrective actions by identifying and addressing manufacturing defects or design flaws.
This Failure Analysis Lab technician will interface with all Process engineers and will report directly to the FA Engineering manager and may have to provide support to engineers in other departments.
You are responsible for:
- Prepping specimens for cross sectional analysis.
- Perform cross sections of test specimens.
- Assist Engineering in setting up and executing Designs of Experiments (DOE).
- Assist Engineering with Material Characterizations.
- Operate Equipment utilized by the Failure Analysis Lab. Cross sectional polishers, SEM, microscopes, X-ray, Rheology, DSC.
- Able to understand schematics, use schematic and PCB layout viewers to locate components and Solder joint locations.
- Plan, organize and maintain the Lab facilities for optimal efficiency. Create new processes when necessary.
- Manage time effectively across multiple demanding deadlines. Be able to work across teams to get things done.
- Have good communication and report writing skills.
- Be familiar with Excel, Word.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:
- Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in similar Engineering lab environments with proven records of high-quality analytical skill.
- Ability to complete tasks on time, to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Great sense of organization.
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Familiar with Office tool suite (Excel spreadsheet and Word).
Associates degree in Engineering or related field or relative work experience
