What are the responsibilities and job description for the FY26 STEM TEacher position at JMS?
This position is for the STEM program at Jefferson Middle School. The course load consists of 8 term-long, alternating classes (two for each grade level) and two STEM 1: Foundation year-long courses that students may use for high school credit.
Each term class consists of about 20 days of instruction, two classes alternating (A Day/ B Day) per term.
5th grade STEM Explorers follows the C25600 course and standards.
6th grade STEM Explorers follows the C25600 course and standards.
7th grade STEM Innovators follows the C25701 course and standards.
8th grade STEM Designers follows the C25801 course and standards.
Every student at every grade level will explore and engage in these fundamental STEM courses. They set the foundation for future year long programs inside and outside of STEM. A highly effective teacher will build relationships quickly and develop activities that push students to become critical thinkers, innovators, and designers.
The year long course will build skillsets in students that allow them to identify and explain the steps of both the engineering design and the scientific inquiry processes. Students conduct research to develop meaningful questions, define simple problem scenarios and scientific investigations, develop fundamental design solutions, conduct basic mathematical modeling and data analysis, and effectively communicate solutions and scientific explanations to others.
This position is vital to the growth of all JMS students as well as leading towards CTE and academic pathways at Oak Ridge High School that will unlock their full potential. We are a team driven, professional learning community at the school and district. This teacher will impact every student at Jefferson and will be a valuable member of the teaching team.

- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree and Tennessee teaching license with one of the following endorsements: 013, 014, 015, 016, 017, 018, 047, 070, 078, 081, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 157, 210, 211, 212, 213, 214, 230, 232, 233, 413, 414, 415, 416, 417, 418, 449, 470, 477, 519, 531, 595, 596, 700, 740, 760, 982
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Requires the Middle Grades endorsement.
- Salary paid in accordance with the Teacher Salary Schedule.
