VCD Coordinator Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled VCD Coordinator to create precise, efficient, and timely layout and fabrication drawings for Plumbing, HVAC, and Process Systems. The ideal candidate will utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to optimize layouts, streamline routing, and resolve interferences, all while ensuring maximum project profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Collaboration & Project Coordination:
- Partner with the Lead Coordinator and Virtual Construction Manager to deliver project-specific tasks.
- Analyze contract drawings and suggest RFIs to resolve ambiguities.
- Produce detailed coordination, shop, and fabrication drawings.
- Manage assigned job scope directly, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements.
- Utilize clash detection software to identify and resolve conflicts.
- Attend coordination meetings in a support capacity.
Layout & Design:
- Develop complex piping system layouts, including mechanical rooms, hanger drawings, pad locations, sleeves, final connections, isometrics, and anchors.
- Coordinate systems from underground to rooftop, ensuring proper functionality.
- Plan solutions to challenging construction coordination issues and interpret multi-level systems such as mechanical rooms and underground distribution systems.
- Align architectural and structural layouts to ensure accurate placement of fixtures and equipment without interference.
Technical Expertise:
- Review equipment submittals for accuracy in size, quantity, and arrangement, incorporating this data into system layouts and coordination.
- Create and maintain project files, document changes, and initiate RFIs with necessary support materials.
- Generate accurate fabrication drawings and bills of material for plumbing and piping systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable plumbing, process, and power piping codes.
Team Support:
- Assist and mentor Detailers and Detailers-in-Training.
- Provide solutions to coordination challenges and make value engineering recommendations.
Software Proficiency:
- Utilize the Autodesk AEC Collection, including:
- Revit (2021-2024 with Fabrication MEP)
- Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Revizto
- Use specialized tools like Victaulic Tools for Revit and GTP Stratus for fabrication deliverables.
- Work with Bluebeam Revu, Procore, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Standards & Accountability:
- Uphold company CAD standards and ensure quality in all deliverables.
- Address ambiguities, conflicts, and omissions in construction documents with minimal supervision.
- Take ownership of challenging tasks and consistently deliver high-quality results.
Preferred Qualifications:
- **Previous HVAC experience (MUST HAVE).**
- **Proficiency with Revit (MUST HAVE).**
- Strong understanding of piping construction, material selection, joining methods, and testing procedures.
- Ability to interpret and integrate architectural, structural, and mechanical designs into cohesive layouts.
- Proven experience in preparing fabrication deliverables and resolving complex coordination issues.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
