Heavy Equipment Operator

JOB SUMMARY:

Contractor works prevailing wage projects.

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe execution of various heavy equipment including but not limited to excavators, loaders, and other similar equipment. This role will be able to accurately and efficiently perform excavation activities using various pieces of equipment. Additionally, the Heavy Equipment Operator will perform minor equipment maintenance and care including the greasing, oiling, and cleaning of the machine daily. Note contractor primarily works on public roads.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform all work adhering to the OSHA and the Company Safety Policy.
• Operate a minimum of three pieces of heavy equipment safety and accurately such as a front loader, backhoe, excavator and/or skid steer with attachments.
• Check grades from grade stakes or from laser grade shooting equipment.
• Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling.
• Adjusts hand levers and depresses pedals to operate equipment and control attachments such as: blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms.
• Operates equipment with priority of making the job safe for all persons working around the equipment.
• Ensures a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
• Manage materials efficiently whether excavating, loading haul vehicles, fine grading, or installing utilities.
• Operate heavy equipment and control attachments in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.
• Maintain all applicable equipment by proactively cleaning and caring for equipment.
• Participate in the daily safety toolbox meeting with crew.
• Complete logs and other requested paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
• Proactively seek training and mentorship to enhance skills and knowledge.
• Participate with all departments to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum of 5 years of operating experience.
• Must be willing to travel within a 2 hour radius.
• Must be able to operate for extended periods of time and to get into awkward positions when cleaning and providing maintenance to the equipment.
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent organizational skills including the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Communicate concerns and issues to management in a timely and diplomatic manner.
• Maintain dependable attendance.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Travel required to and between job sites.
• Ability to work in a diplomatic and collaborative manner with coworkers, management, and vendors.
• Perform the physical requirements of walking, standing, climbing stairs or ladders, and lifting over 50 lbs.
• Work overtime and weekends as needed or as requested.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour

• 8 hour shift
• Overtime
• Weekends as needed
