Job Description
The Senior Counsel, Legal Privacy & Data Security will be responsible for handling a variety of privacy and data security matters across business areas and jurisdictions, with a primary focus on U.S. data privacy and cyber security matters.
Core Job Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and day-to-day legal support for business functions (both aesthetics and therapeutics).
- Monitor and advise on compliance and implementation positions for emerging data privacy laws.
- Support global privacy contracts and M&A legal teams regarding data privacy legal questions, contract reviews, and negotiations.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage data privacy and protection terms for various transactional agreements.
- Support the AbbVie privacy compliance office regarding the operation of AbbVie's global privacy program.
- Monitor and advise on the implications of privacy laws on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
- Provide legal support for information security risk management team, including data breach analysis and response, third party risk management, and insider risk.
- Draft and review privacy notice, consent, and contract templates, both globally and regionally.
Qualifications
- Candidates must possess a JD degree and state bar certification.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in relevant legal experience in data privacy and security matters on a wide range of commercial business issues at a major law firm and/or corporate environment.
- Strong background in U.S. and EU data privacy requirements.
- Experience advising on privacy matters related to the processing of health information preferred.
- Experience with digital related data privacy matters preferred.
- Ability to write clearly and prepare professional communications.
- Detailed and rigorous legal research and analysis skills.
- Experience working with and across the full corporate structure in a matrixed corporate environment.
- Experience supporting senior business leaders.
- Experience in data processing agreements and data transfer agreements.
- Experience working with and advising multinational affiliates across markets.
- IAPP Certifications, such as CIPP/US or CIPP/E, a plus.
