VP of Finance Job Description
We are seeking a highly qualified VP of Finance to join our team at Tri-County Electric Cooperative.
About the Role
The successful candidate will work closely with the current VP of Finance until their retirement in early 2026, transitioning responsibilities and ensuring a smooth handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning, organizing, managing, and directing the activities of the Finance department, including general accounting, financial planning, risk management, internal auditing, and procurement.
- Reviewing and approving operating procedures to maximize the effective and efficient utilization of financial resources.
- Overseeing finance control within established policy, including investments of Cooperative funds with annual revenues of approximately $40M, Construction Loan Funds of $5M annually, and Emergency Lines of Credit of $120M.
- Preparing and administering all RUS and supplemental lender loan applications.
- Developing and maintaining financial information and assumptions and preparing the ten-year Financial Forecast annually.
- Making recommendations to meet the requirements of the equity management policy.
- Directing the maintenance of the general ledger and related subsidiaries.
- Supervising the preparation of monthly operating reports and other statistical reports, including bank reconciliations.
- Developing and maintaining proper cash management programs.
- Developing annual department plans and budget including personnel, equipment, and supplies. Responsible for cooperative-wide purchasing systems such as Purchase orders, credit cards, etc.
- Coordinating and consolidating cooperative-wide annual budget and analyzing overall financial position.
- Analyzing and preparing detailed monthly and long-term financial information and providing recommendations for fiscal improvements to the CEO.
- Preparing and overseeing preparation of financial and statistical information for Management and Board of Trustees as requested.
- Supervising payroll and accounts payable functions.
- Supervising wholesale power billing activities.
- Communicating with financial institutions (RUS, CFC, FFB, etc.)
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field is required.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and procedures as they relate to the financial management of a rural electric utility.
- Thorough knowledge of the RUS Uniform System of Accounts, including work order procedure, general and subsidiary ledgers.
- Proficiency in expense analysis, accounts payable, payroll, property records, and long-term debt acquisition.
- Accuracy in detailed analysis and computational tasks.
- Strong human relations skills generally associated with a management position to effectively supervise office and accounting personnel.
- Excellent computer skills with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office.
