Job Details
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Permanent Controller to join our expanding team in the construction industry. This is a unique opportunity to join a highly respected and innovative organization where you will play a pivotal role in the financial management and strategic direction of the company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, with a deep understanding of the construction industry. The Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company's financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of implementing financial systems and processes, managing budgets, and driving financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all financial operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk.
- Ensure that the company's financial reports comply with current accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Develop and manage the company's annual budget and perform periodic cost and productivity analyses.
- Collaborate with senior management to establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Manage the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, reports to shareholders, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies.
- Implement and maintain QuickBooks system to ensure that all financial data is captured and reported accurately and timely.
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage the preparation of audit materials and financial reporting.
- Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation.
- Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's degree or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position, preferably in the construction industry.
- Proven proficiency in QuickBooks and other accounting software.
- Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.
- An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral, written and persuasive skills.
- Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
