Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing all aspects of construction accounting, including Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, job costing, and financial reporting. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a deep understanding of construction financial management and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers and executives.
Key Responsibilities
WIP & Job Costing Prepare and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports to ensure accurate revenue recognition and cost tracking. Maintain detailed job cost reports and ensure costs are allocated correctly.
Financial Reporting Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards.
General Ledger & Reconciliations Manage the general ledger, reconcile accounts, and ensure timely and accurate financial close processes.
Budgeting & Forecasting Work with project managers to develop budgets, monitor project costs, and provide variance analysis.
Billing & Accounts Payable/Receivable Ensure accurate progress billing, subcontractor payments, and collections to maintain cash flow.
Compliance & Audits Support financial audits, tax filings, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
Process Improvement Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes, improve reporting accuracy, and implement best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA is a plus.
5 years of construction accounting experience, preferably in general contracting.
Strong knowledge of WIP reports, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 (Timberline), Viewpoint, Procore, QuickBooks).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate financial data effectively.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with project managers and senior leadership.
