Job Summary
The Mainframe Systems Programmer Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing the IBM z / OS platform, including its modifications, customizations, and related functions. This role serves as a technical architect and primary expert for the IBM mainframe infrastructure, ensuring system reliability, efficiency, and security. The position also involves mentoring staff, analyzing and resolving system issues, and implementing best practices in system management and disaster recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical architect for the IBM mainframe infrastructure, including z / OS operating systems, ISV system software, disaster recovery planning, and backup / recovery systems.
- Analyze and resolve IBM system software problems by implementing vendor corrections or developing local fixes.
- Evaluate and enhance current operational procedures, documenting and maintaining operational protocols for the z / OS infrastructure.
- Design, implement, monitor, and maintain the z / OS server environment and mainframe infrastructure.
- Lead the administration and support of the mainframe computing environment, including MVS, JES, RACF, CICS, DB2, SMF, RMF, WLM, HSM, and TSO.
- Install, configure, and validate new releases of operating system software, ensuring seamless implementation.
- Conduct daily system reviews to monitor CPU usage, DASD storage, paging activities, and system logs for anomalies.
- Provide 24 / 7 support to maintain IBM mainframe computing services.
- Mentor and train designated employees, tracking progress and refining training plans as needed.
