Please Note: Please do not call our office to inquire about your application. That will result in automatic rejection.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, PLEASE NOTE AND SEE THIS-
THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION IS IGNORED BY 90% OF APPLICANTS----
ANY APPLICATION THAT DOES NOT HAVE A COVER LETTER WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY REJECTED. In addition to your resume, we need something in 200 words or less that tells us why you would be a good candidate for this position as well as how it would fit into your life goals.
If you are rejected, it is most likely due to your failure to follow these instructions.
Who are we? Although we are a small law firm, but we are a popular choice for seriously injured workers in the Greater Hampton Roads area. The president of the firm has written, published, and distributed several books and posted numerous videos on Workers Compensation and Personal Injury on our website and elsewhere on the web and social media, and presented at legal seminars. We continue to accomplish amazing things, but we are constantly looking to upgrade our team. That could start with YOU.
What kind of folks are you looking for? We are looking for people who are self-starters, with a willingness and ability to absorb new concepts like a sponge. You need to be smart, a team player, and you need to be willing to listen to directions and yet be able to think on your own. You need to have an engaging telephone presence. We are looking for superstars who are excited and honored to play a vital role in our very important mission of rebuilding the lives of the seriously injured.
What does the legal assistant do at your firm? Your job is to assist the paralegal and attorney in whatever is required on our files. You will be contacting clients for the initial information gathering, as well as continual and regular client follow-up, as well as keeping the paralegal and attorney informed on client files. As a result of your information gathering from our clients, you will be assisting with ordering medical records and bills.
You will be asked to mail initial retainer packages and other items to clients, adjusters, and opposing attorneys.
You may assist the paralegal and attorney in readying files for hearing. You will be preparing simple forms that need to be filed to proceed with our workers compensation cases.
As you grow in the position, so will the list of tasks assigned to you, and hopefully, your salary and your title will grow as well. This position provides a path to graduate to paralegal.
"MUST HAVE" SKILLS:You must be computer literate, in particular with Microsoft WORD, Outlook, and EXCEL. You must be able to copy and scan records and place the PDF's in the appropriate file on the server. You must be a fast typist. It is preferable but not required that you have a familiarity with medical records to the extent that you can organize and review them correctly. You must be proficient in writing standard correspondence on a computer and work with computer files and content in WORD. You need to be able to get the job done at what we would describe at nothing less than a "frantic" pace.

The person who will fail in this job is a person who is incapable of following clear, unambiguous written instructions and does not have the ability to work independently and is constantly having to have his or her work rejected for mistakes and lack of attention to detail. The person who will fail in this job is arrogant and thinks there is nothing more to learn and actually takes offense at any form of correction or critique.
Who will have an edge over others in terms of applications? Those with significant experience in Virginia or North Carolina workers compensation and/or personal injury will be given top priority; however, what will win us over is whether you possess the quality of character we are looking for. Much of what we need you to do we can teach you, but those who possess the values and innate qualities we seek as set forth above--these are things that cannot be acquired by training.
Most of all, what will give you an edge is are qualities that appear to be mostly lost nowadays, and that is HUSTLE, FOCUS, and the ability to stay engaged in a task until it is complete. If you are the kind of person who likes to constantly "work it" and stay on top of all of your assignments, you will definitely succeed here.
Any benefits? Yes. In addition to your regular pay, after a probationary period, if needed, we provide health insurance. We have a bonus incentive program available for each and every five star review you get someone who has interacted with us to give us on Google or AVVO.
