The Director of Merchandising – Women’s Apparel at Johnny Was is responsible for leading the merchandising strategy to drive growth, innovation, and efficiency while staying true to the brand’s identity. The role involves developing seasonal line plans, optimizing product assortments, and identifying new opportunities to enhance profitability and market relevance. The director leverages market insights and data to inform decisions, collaborates with design, marketing, and sales teams for cohesive brand execution, and implements streamlined processes for improved planning and inventory management. Additionally, the role focuses on pricing strategies, financial performance analysis, and innovation through new product launches and collaborations. Leadership responsibilities include building and mentoring a high-performing merchandising team, fostering creativity, and ensuring the team makes strategic, data-driven decisions to support long-term brand success.Position Overview:
Lead the Women’s Apparel merchandising strategy, ensuring alignment with the Johnny Was brand DNA while driving growth, innovation, and process efficiencies.
Act as a strategic leader, balancing creative vision with financial discipline to maximize profitability and long-term success.
Identify and implement forward-thinking merchandising strategies and streamlined processes to enhance efficiency, agility, and decision-making.
Be an out-of-the-box thinker, constantly analyzing competitive landscapes, consumer behavior, and industry trends to identify market gaps and new opportunities.
Develop strategies that position Johnny Was for long-term success, ensuring the brand remains relevant and competitive in an evolving retail landscape.
Apply a data-driven approach to merchandising, leveraging insights from sales performance, customer feedback, and emerging trends to optimize the product mix.
Seasonal Line Planning & Product Strategy
Own the development of the seasonal Line Plan, ensuring a strategic, well-balanced assortment that resonates with the Johnny Was customer.
Partner with Design and PD to push innovation in fabrications, silhouettes, and techniques while staying true to the brand’s identity.
Identify new product categories or business opportunities, supporting both immediate revenue growth and long-term brand evolution.
Drive operational efficiencies within merchandising, implementing new tools and methodologies to streamline line planning, forecasting, and decision-making.
Strengthen the integration of merchandising, planning, and allocation, ensuring a seamless, data-backed approach to inventory and distribution strategies.
Evolve pricing strategies to maintain a competitive edge while driving margin growth and customer engagement.
Lead seasonal strategy presentations, ensuring Retail, E-Commerce, Wholesale, and Marketing teams have clear direction to execute the product vision effectively.
Foster stronger collaboration with Marketing & Creative to bring the product story to life, ensuring a cohesive brand message across all consumer touchpoints.
Ensure assortment segmentation and distribution strategies align with customer demand and business objectives.
Continuously analyze sell-through, financial metrics, and customer insights, using data to refine product strategies and drive business results.
Take a test-and-learn approach, experimenting with new product launches, limited-edition collaborations, and exclusive drops to keep the assortment fresh and exciting.
Identify and implement business innovations, challenging conventional merchandising models to improve efficiency, profitability, and customer experience.
Build and mentor a best-in-class Women’s Apparel Merchandising team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and analytical thinking.
Encourage entrepreneurial thinking, empowering the team to explore new ideas and approaches that elevate the brand.
Ensure the team is well-versed in business acumen, providing the tools and training needed to make strategic, data-driven decisions.
Pay is based on multiple factors, such as qualifications/skills/experience, geography, and state and local wage laws. In addition, bonus and/or commission and benefits including healthcare, retirement savings, paid time off/vacation, and product discounts may be offered.
Range for this position is $144,500 - $240,800
