What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist position at Johnson City Schools?
Johnson City Schools is looking for a Payroll Specialist to compete tasks related to processing of payroll.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English;
2. Minimum of a high school diploma; some college/business school preferred;
3. Minimum of one-year experience in the payroll processing;
4. Knowledge of accounting principles, methods and procedures;
5. Computer skills; and
6. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Enter employee’s pay details into the payroll accounting software system;
2. Input employee payroll information and personnel changes into the payroll accounting system;
3. Maintain payroll accountings records according to applicable guidelines;
4. Maintain payroll files of all employees;
5. Keep employee payroll information, including pay rates, leave status and benefits status current and up to date;
6. Maintain documentation necessary for accurate preparation of W-2 and 1099 forms.
7. Distribute payroll and all payroll documents in an accurate and timely manner;
8. Process and administer all wage garnishments;
9. Maintain sick leave bank records;
10. Maintain accurate employee leave records;
11. Assign proper accounting codes;
12. Prepare various payroll reports for state reporting;
13. Maintain accurate salary scales;
14. Work with the Human Resources Department as needed to maintain personnel records; and
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job may require occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:
1. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling;
2. Climbing and/or balancing;
3. Stooping, kneeling and/or crawling;
4. Reaching;
5. Talking, hearing;
6. Vision, correctable to 20/20.
