Overnight Shelter Advocate at the Johnson County Family Crisis Center. We are a domestic violence and sexual assault agency serving survivors.

Position Objective: Facilitate communication with all residential clients, staff, and volunteers and provide information, assistance, and support. This is an overnight position. Would need to feel comfortable staying the night in the shelter with shelter residents.

Reports to: Shelter Director

Primary Functions:

  • Provide support services to residential clients, including but not limited to crisis intervention, support.
  • Answer, assist, and/or direct requests for information/referrals and basic needs
  • Provide supply needs to supervisor.
  • Accept, sort and document donations
  • Preserve and enhance the Agency’s image in the community through all interactions.
  • Provide safety planning and crisis intervention for crisis line callers
  • Provide telephone screening for shelter eligibility
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Proficient in computer skills, including data entry and file management

Requirements:

Prerequisites:

  • Demonstrate ability to listen to others and display empathy
  • Minimum 23 years old

Preferences:

  • Bilingual in Spanish

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to easily climb stairs
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 per week

Schedule:

  • 12 hour shift
  • On call
  • Overnight shift
  • Weekends as needed

Job-related location requirement:

  • Candidates must be within a 25-mile radius.
