Location: Johnson County Hospital, Tecumseh, Nebraska

Job Summary: A medical Office Biller/Coder is responsible for posting and managing account payments. They are responsible for submitting insurance claims and following up with insurance companies. They handle demands pleasantly, professionally, and efficiently.
Schedule:
Working hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 - 5:00. Hours may vary due to workload.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Have knowledge of insurance guidelines including Medicare, Medicaid, managed care plans and other third party payers.
- Review health record documentation, encounter form, computer generated reports and other tools to identify treated conditions and billable services provided to each patient.
- Assigns appropriate CPT and HCPCS codes.
- Assigns appropriate ICD10 diagnosis codes selecting the codes that accurately describe the condition for which the service or procedure was performed.
- Enter and post daily charges making sure batches reconcile.
- Prepares paper and electronic claims for submission to the appropriate payer.
- Analyzes and resolves claim rejections and denials related to coding issues.
- Calls insurance companies to inquire on status of claims submitted.
- Works on old claims to maintain an acceptable AR balance.
- Answers patient questions, identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
- Posts all insurance checks on a daily basis making sure the batch reconciles.
- Works with patient and insurance refunds.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing results timely.

The medical office biller/coder will understand and demonstrate compliance with HIPPA regulations and will comply with all JCH policies and procedures.
The medical office biller/coder will carry out any other responsibilities deemed necessary by the JCH Administrator or the clinic manager.
Qualifications:
1. Preferred minimum level of education: High School Diploma
2. Medical accounting/related work experience is desirable.
Skills:
1. Computer knowledge and data skills entry.
2. Good business communication skills.
3. Knowledge of professional telephone techniques and patient relations.
4. Ability to work in a busy, stressful office environment.
