POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide a safe well-maintained and enjoyable park and facility by performing a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in grounds maintenance, gardening, natural resource management, construction, landscaping, vehicle repair, electrical and building maintenance, and equipment operation.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To operate tractor, mowers, trucks and a variety of manual and power tools. To maintain a high usage park including trees, shrubs, grass, lakes, tables, restrooms, park facilities, and to perform general grounds and facility maintenance to include planting, fertilizing, trimming, spraying, watering of plants, and some grounds. Assist in construction, maintenance and repair and doing a variety of work related to a county park.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational Requirements: High school diploma and/or sufficient education level required to successfully fulfill job performance.
Professional Experience: Woodworking skills, plumbing skills, welding skills, mechanical skills, knowledge of grounds, and plant maintenance, knowledge of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, knowledge of tree care, knowledge of recycling materials.
Required Skills: Any combination equivalent to completion of sufficient education to assure the ability to learn the park maintenance procedures at the level required for successful job performance, and one year of park maintenance work experience, valid driver’s license.
NATURE & SCOPE:
The Park Worker reports to the SE Region Assistant Manager within Heritage Park Shop. The Parks Division of JCPRD maintains the county park system as a quality recreation resource for the public. This position’s performance will be affected by the weather, season, park visitation level. special events, and special projects. These influences cause additional demands upon the position and create a challenging work environment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Through peak season, he/she is responsible for supervising seasonal staff and to provide daily direction to seasonal staff as assigned or directed.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Performs park maintenance duties so that buildings, structures and grounds are maintained at a consistent standard of quality.
2. Responds to work assignments and instructions in order to complete tasks in a timely manner with satisfactory job quality and quantity parameters.
3. Performs jobs and operates vehicles, equipment in a safe and proper manner.
4. Performs preventative maintenance and routine repair work on vehicles and equipment.
5. Participates in training and development programs.
6. Complies with personnel policy code of conduct.
