Job Summary
The Dispatch\Jailer plays a vital role in maintaining safety and security within correctional facility and in our community. This position involves supervising inmates, enforcing rules and regulations, and ensuring a safe environment for both staff and inmates. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a commitment to upholding the law, and the ability to manage conflicts effectively. Dispatchers answer administrative and emergency phone lines, while dispatching police, fire, and rescue squads.
Duties
- Supervise inmate activities and movements within the facility.
- Enforce facility rules and regulations to maintain order and security.
- Conduct regular inspections of inmate living areas, common areas, and security equipment.
- Monitor CCTV systems to observe inmate behavior and ensure safety protocols are followed.
- Respond promptly to incidents or emergencies, utilizing first aid and CPR when necessary.
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents, inmate behavior, and daily activities.
- Collaborate with law enforcement personnel as needed during emergencies or investigations.
- Participate in ongoing training programs related to conflict management and emergency response.
- Answer incoming non-emergency administrative calls, obtain pertinent information from caller, and respond to requests for information.
- Maintain accurate call and radio logs.
- be alert and aware of ongoing activities involving law enforcement and offer appropriate backup assistance.
- Offer basic self-help assistance to callers if appropriate.
Skills
- Ability to learn and apply the policies, operating procedures, and methods utilized in the communications center and jail.
- Strong understanding of law enforcement principles and practices.
- Ability to write clear and concise reports documenting incidents and observations.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is highly desirable.
- Experience with CCTV monitoring systems is a plus.
- Excellent conflict management skills to de-escalate tense situations effectively.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to respond rapidly and effectively to emergency situations and to maintain the emotional composure necessary during calls.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
This role requires a dedicated individual who can work under pressure while maintaining professionalism at all times. Candidates must be age 19 or older and should possess a high school diploma or GED. Also, should be prepared for a challenging yet rewarding career in law enforcement.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $20.02 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
