GENERAL SUMMARY

Assists the Elections Administrator with managing the Voter Registration Department and conducting local, state and federal elections; and assists the public with information pertaining to the Elections/Voter Registration Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Assists the Elections Administrator with the preparation of conducting elections, management of the Voter Registration Department, direction of the Assistant Voter Registrar and Clerk II positions, Commissioner’s Court, and management of weekly deposits and biweekly payroll sheets.
  • Assists the public with any general information pertaining to elections and voter registration.
  • Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
  • Attends the Secretary of State Election/Voter Registration Law Seminars.

  • Employees are required to comply with safety regulations, procedures, protocols, OSHA standards, and wear personal protective gear if required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

6 months to 1 year of advanced study or training beyond high school equivalency, with 1 to 3 years related experience. Combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions listed above can be substituted.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

  • In-depth knowledge of the guidelines and laws from the Secretary of State, Department of Justice and the Texas Ethics Commission, and the Public Information Act pertaining to Elections
  • In-depth knowledge of the County and entities within
  • General office skills and computer knowledge of Excel and MS Word
  • In-depth knowledge of the guidelines and laws from the Secretary of State pertaining to voter registration and conducting elections
  • In-depth knowledge of the Texas Election Administration Management System
  • Good communication, organization and troubleshooting abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of what is presented in Commissioner’s Court pertaining to the Johnson County Elections/Voter Registration office
  • Ability to read Maps and use mapping software
  • Ability to maintain and update Election information on the Johnson County Election Website
  • Ability to travel
  • Accounting abilities
  • Work independently
  • Knowledge of the payroll sheets software
  • Supervise and evaluate employees
  • Exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job
  • Collect, organize, and interpret data and prepare accurate records
  • Prioritize and assign work
  • Train, orient, and manage personnel
  • Operate standard office equipment, such as computer keyboards and monitors, copiers, scanners, and telephone
  • Use (or learn to use) computer software and systems applicable to the position
  • Follow oral and written instructions and procedures
  • Establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, or managers in the work unit and other departments, as well as with staff of outside entities and other individuals, as applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities
