Job Title: Clinic Clerical Support
Job Summary: Provides indirect patient care in the office setting. Greets and registers patients. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Performs clerical duties. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, office staff and the medical staff. Participates in performance improvement activities
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
Greets and registers all patients as they enter the facility; gives new patients medical forms to complete.
Verifies patient demographic and insurance information and eligibility. Performs prior authorizations for scheduled surgical procedures and inpatient admissions.
Ensures an adequate stock of supplies.
Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
Explains billing policies, collects patient payments.
Schedules new and return appointments; explains registration process and gives directions to new patients; may explain procedure preparation to patients. Schedules medical tests.
Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner; takes messages; directs calls to appropriate staff members.
Files lab, test, and x-ray reports as well as outside records. Maintains patient medical records.
Completes outgoing documents.
Maintains a good working relationship with office staff members and physicians.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Professional Requirements:
Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
Wears identification while on duty.
Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
Attends staff meetings; or reads and returns all staff meeting minutes.
Ensures patient confidentiality.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Actively participates in the department's continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Regulatory Requirements:
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Preferred one (1) year experience in office or hospital setting, insurance experience a plus.
Language Skills:
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional languages preferred.
Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Preferred knowledge of medical terminology.
Physical Demands:
- Normal clinic environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Operates computer, typewriter, calculator, telephone, fax machine, and general office equipment. Continuous sitting. Occasional standing, walking, and bending within the work areas. Minimal lifting up to 40 pounds.
