Overview
Production Leads will assist the Supervisors with leading and providing work direction to their assigned work teams. Leads will follow up on productivity, quality, on-time delivery and other aspects of work processes, and will inform Supervisors of problems related their work teams.
KEY FOCUS AREAS FOR LEADS
- Ownership: Leads are expected to actively manage their areas with minimal supervision.
- Alignment: Maintain alignment with department goals (safety, quality, delivery, productivity).
- Accountability: Ensure completion of daily tasks, escalate challenges promptly, and communicate updates effectively.
PRIOR TO SHIFT
-Attendance
- Assignments based on production demand.
- Cell Set-Up.
- Determine Part Availability.
-Turnover (Read and React)
- Change Point Management
- Communicate with Team Members & Supervisor the following.
- Abnormalities regarding Safety, Quality and Production.
- Demand vs. Manpower.
- Process changes, training, etc.
- Preventative Maintenance, confirmation of area and equipment.
- Own SQDC board preparation and resolution Lead (Tier 1) meeting with team at SQDC board
- Record waste occurrences identified by the production team
- Drive waste elimination at Tier 1 or Teir 2 meeting.
DURING SHIFT
Facilitate and ensure team is executing production plan, through use of tools: Hour by Hour boards, waste identification, value-add optimization, etc.
- Provide Support to team members.
- Make necessary adjustments and facilitate quick resolution to production issues.
- Time management guidelines:
- 80% of time - Leadership (CI, Schedule, Quality, etc.)
- 20% of time – Value Added (working on product)
Production Delays
- Investigate Root Cause.
- Countermeasure or notify responsible party.
- Communicate issues (man, method, machine, material, internal, external).
- Ensure root cause elimination (temporary vs. permanent).
- Ensure team member has productive tasks-5S, quality checks, other work (e.g. welding, cleaning, deburr, etc.).
Monitor Safety, Quality, Productivity
- Hour by Hour Boards
- How’s your process? (HYP)
- Facilitator communicates with team members to ensure they are okay in regard to safety, quality and productivity.
- Ensure Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used, there is no trip hazards, dropped parts etc.
- Periodic quality inspections
- Cell Set-Up
Audits
- Team Member is following Standardized Work.
- Updates to work instruction.
- Formal Process Audits (weekly, monthly)
- Coach as necessary.
- Document, analyze and resolve process abnormalities
Personnel Management
- Report to Supervisor.
- Attendance issues and the need for problem resolution (abnormal/extreme).
- Observe any trends/changes and report.
- Team Meetings- Improve Process
Training
- Cross – Training Charts.
- Training Plan.
- Facilitator Training at Team Member position.
Cost Reduction
- Improvements to reduce cost.
- Changes to jigs, standardized work, machines, etc. to improve productivity and eliminate waste.
Maintain Best in Class 5S
PRIOR TO END OF SHIFT

Throw Away Trash
Put away materials
Ensure proper labels, taping is present.
AFTER SHIFT
Leave Good Turnover (If 2 Shifts)
Issues from day communicated

Ensure Supervisor does not need anything before leaving
Requirements:
- Three to seven years in positions of progressive responsibilities including Lead roles.
- Ability to lead and motivate a diverse work group.
- High School Education required, 2 yr. Vocational degree a plus
- Possess basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Have a professional, positive, and responsible attitude
- Possesses above average verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
- Have successfully performed duties in their current role.
- Demonstrated leadership that is consistent with the principles of OES
- Demonstrated initiative on projects
- Have above average safety track record in current role, and have demonstrated a desire to work safely and within the HSE framework
