The Johnston County Airport Authority is seeking a motivated, experienced director to oversee the daily operations of the airport (JNX) and administer its growth and development. The Airport Director position reports directly to the Johnston County Airport Authority Board. JNX is owned and operated by the Johnston County Airport Authority and serves corporate, military, and general aviation aircraft.
Johnston Regional Airport (JNX) serves the greater Raleigh metropolitan area and provides the most convenient location for the Triangle region. The airport is home to the Johnston County Economic Development department, aviation-related businesses, Duke Life Flight, and several corporate aircraft and recreational aviators.
Located 28 nautical miles southeast of RDU, it provides convenient access to numerous Piedmont and eastern North Carolina destinations. JNX is the gateway to the Triangle region. The airport’s proximity to I-40 and I-95 puts JNX at the crossroads of booming economic growth.
Johnston Regional Airport has a 5500’ x 100’ runway with a newly constructed terminal building. JNX provides patrons with state-of-the-art amenities in a modern aeronautic environment.
- The Airport Director is responsible for the administration, operational maintenance and supervision of the County's municipal airport.
- Work includes short and long range planning; budgeting; and supervising staff in performing airplane refueling, security and storage of airplanes, flight communications, car rental, customer relations and services, and maintenance of the runways, buildings, grounds, hangars, and instrument landing system.
- Work involves ensuring that facilities are in operational condition at all times and in compliance with FAA safety regulations; developing and recommending policies, procedures, and fee structures for approval by the Airport Authority; and serving as staff to the Authority.
- Employee operates with considerable latitude which requires, discretion and judgment grounded in extensive technical aviation knowledge to make independent professional and managerial decisions.
- Tact and diplomacy are required in contacts with pilots, corporate and business executives, the general public, employees and local officials and Authority members.
- An employee is subject to hazards in the work including indoor and outside environmental conditions; significant noise and vibrations; physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current; working in high places, narrow aisles, crawl spaces and areas which could cause claustrophobia; and exposure to high heat, chemicals, oils, fumes, dusts, odors, or poor ventilation.
