What are the responsibilities and job description for the Powder Coat Manager position at Join Our Team?
As the Powder Coating Manager, you are responsible for overseeing all powder coating operations within Shared Services OKC. This role may provide technical support to all M-D locations and departments as requested, while ensuring the consistency, quality, and efficiency of the powder coating processes across the organization. The manager will be responsible for leading the team to establish best practices, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all powder coating operations within the OKC plant, ensuring high-quality finishes, uniformity, and adherence to specifications.
- Build, post, and monitor specific and relevant metrics to ensure the highest level of performance and ongoing continuous improvement.
- Provide expert technical assistance to all M-D locations as needed or requested, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to powder coating.
- Investigate new suppliers, materials, racking methodologies, and finish requirements to improve process efficiency, quality, and sustainability. Introduce and implement advanced finishing technologies.
- Assess and recommend technical training opportunities for powder coating teams to improve skill sets and maintain high standards of operational excellence.
- Help establish and maintain standard recipe control processes to ensure consistent finishes and colors across products.
- Work closely with the powder coating team to develop a continuity plan and succession planning for key roles, ensuring that talent is nurtured, and critical positions are always filled.
- Partner with other powder coaters across M-D to ensure consistency and uniformity in finishing processes.
- Facilitate collaboration to share best practices and standardize approaches. Specifically in reference to growing the Manufactured Solutions powder coating business
- Actively participate in capital projects, identifying and driving improvements that impact the OKC powder coating processes.
- Work with the Maintenance Team t0 ensure preventative maintenance (PM) schedules are met and equipment uptime continues to improve.
- Exemplify M-D's safety culture, leading by example and promoting a safe work environment through engagement, training, and adherence to safety standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Master’s degree or relevant certifications (White Belt, Yellow Belt, Supply Chain) are a plus.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in powder coating, or other finishing processes within a manufacturing environment.
- Deep understanding of powder coating processes, including materials science, chemistry, racking methodologies, color matching, and process optimization.
- Demonstrated successful coaching, mentorship and development of both individuals and teams to build long-term organizational capability.
- Experience managing capital projects, including budget oversight, timeline management, and vendor coordination.
- Strong commitment to safety, with experience in promoting and adhering to safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
