Join the Ski School team at Cooper and help create the next generation of skiers! Cooper is an independent ski area that prides itself on excellent guest service, pristine snow conditions, affordability, and its friendliness for beginners and families. Want to make a difference? Full and part time seasonal positions are available for both ski and snowboard instructors. PSIA/AASI certifications are a plus, but not required.
Duties and responsibilities
- Recognizes that outstanding service is the product and exceeding guest expectations the goal
- Maintains a safe and responsible work environment while teaching and adheres to those principles of conduct while riding or skiing
- Instructs group and private lessons of varying ability levels, as assigned
- Instructs students of any age, sex, nationality, and learning ability as assigned
- Understands and follows Cooper’s teaching guidelines as well as Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors – Rocky Mountain Division with individuality and personal insight
- Makes a conscious and continued effort to improve and expand personal riding and skiing skills, teaching skills and professional knowledge
- Is the embodiment of a guest services and public relations representative for Cooper on and off the hill
- Is visible, approachable, and available to guests
- Supplies modern, indemnifiable personal ski and/or board equipment and maintains it in a safe, functional, and attractive condition
- Is responsible for all information contained in manuals, amendments, addendums, posts on bulletin boards, email postings, and morning meetings
- Any other tasks assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Must be 16 years old, with reliable transportation to the resort. Public transportation is not available in this area.
- PSIA/AASI certification is preferred
- Full Time commitment is (5) days per week from opening day of the season thru closing. (7) Days a week could be necessary during high season periods.
- Part Time commitment is a minimum of 28 work days per season. Minimum of 5 days per month December thru March are required. The remaining (8) days can be spread over the season. Training days prior to opening do not count as work days.
- Great communication skills
- The ability to effectively teach the skills and technique of skiing/snowboarding to others
- A positive and professional attitude
- Willingness to be part of a team and be a productive teammate
- Must be able to work weekends, vacation periods, and on major holidays
- Must be available the entire season from late November thru mid-April

Working conditions
The Instructor position is based primarily outside and is exposed to temperature extremes (above 85 degrees and below 20 degrees), sun and wind exposure, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) and high altitudes (10,500 feet).
Physical requirements
Must be able to walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend stairs, stand and/or sit for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, lift objects that may be heavy, and ski or snowboard at an intermediate level.
Seasonal Status
This is a winter seasonal position with an expected season of early December 2024 through early-mid April 2025. Employment in subsequent seasons is not guaranteed. Be sure to speak with your supervisor if you desire to return the next season.
