About The Position
As Planner I, you will work as a member of the Community Planning team under the direction of the Team Lead or Principal(s) on a variety of planning projects. Duties will include project management and/or project management support, leading and/or facilitating client communications, scheduling/facilitating public meetings/hearings, preparing and delivering reports, memos, applications, and presentations, conducting research, and coordinating with other team members, clients, prospective clients, and regulatory agencies with project deliverable(s) or their future project deliverable needs. In addition, you will plan and implement public engagement activities and create informative, attractive, and easy-to-read materials to communicate complex ideas. Typical project deliverables include, but are not limited to, annexation policy plans, general/master plans, land use or other ordinances/regulations, land use or other related training materials, and staff reports summarizing reviewed land use applications.
Note: As Planner I you may be required to attend/present project deliverables at client meetings which occur after 5:00 p.m. during the weekdays, as well as travel overnight for out-of-town projects.

Primary Responsibilities:
As Planner 1, you will be part of our growing team by performing the functions and duties listed below:
Technical & Client Relations
Provide community planning related advice to a wide range of clients, including other team members, clients, prospective clients, and regulatory agencies.
Work with the Community Planning Team to perform a variety of project management and planning related tasks as required including, but not limited to:
Marketing & Business Development
Strengthen our reputation as the go-to source for community planning needs by participating in marketing strategies or other development activities that enhance and expand our existing client relationships and those which cultivate new relationships.
Proactively seek opportunities for cross-selling to enhance and expand our existing client relationships during and after projects.
Assist the Team Lead with the development of proposals for new planning projects including scopes of work, estimated budgets, and associated timelines.
Other
Participate in Team and alma mater recruitment efforts.
Maintain and expand management and professional capabilities through membership and other involvement in industry associations and other professional organizations, pursuing appropriate as well as required continuing education, certifications, writing, and speaking opportunities.
Practice mindful awareness of your activities and surroundings, and follow all company, OSHA, federal, state, and local health and safety guidelines and requirements.
Perform other related duties as assigned
Experience & Certifications Required:
Bachelors Degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or a related field or equivalent experience.
A minimum of one to three (1-3) years of experience in a planning or related field.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Self-motivated, innovative, and strategic thinker with the ability to work independently under limited supervision.
Strong leadership and team building skills as well as excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. Previous experience in project management/coordination preferred as the selected candidate will prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
Excellent verbal, written, and web-based communication and presentation skills.
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
Understanding of general planning practices and land use policy tactics, including the ability to interpret and apply comprehensive plans, ordinances, and regulations (i.e., development codes).
Ability to assist with audits of comprehensive plans, ordinances, and regulations (i.e., development codes) and code (i.e., ordinance) writing.
Experience conducting research and preparing reports/presentations on planning related topics (i.e., land use, housing, physical, social and economic issues).
Knowledge of/experience with public engagement tactics, including outreach to diverse communities through interviews, focus groups, questionaries, public events, and advisory committee meetings.
Ability to read, review, and interpret development plans with adopted comprehensive plans, ordinances, and regulations (i.e., development codes) and summarize/communicate findings to other team members, clients, prospective clients, and regulatory agencies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Drive and Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and Adobe software. Familiarity with ArcGIS and Bluebeam Revu.

Occasional air travel required.
Physical Requirements
The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
Typically, in an office or mobile office environment with occasional visits to client and project sites. In addition, the team member may be required to visit project sites in various weather conditions and extremes if needed. The use of special safety precautions and/or equipment may be required.
