Joseph’s House is a residential respite care home in NW Washington, DC that serves primarily previously homeless men and women with advanced HIV disease and / or terminal cancer. For most of these residents, some combination of mental illness, stigma, isolation, substance abuse, poverty and / or domestic violence have prevented them from successfully managing their HIV disease and cancer.
Once medically stabilized, many Joseph’s House residents transition to post residential case management. These services can include medication management, housing, counseling, life skills training, advocacy, transportation and community activities.
Job Summary :
The Deputy Director at Joseph’s House is a member of a multidisciplinary team including a registered nurse, clinical coordinator, executive director, and staff, who provides comprehensive intake, assessment, discharge planning and case management services to all members of the Joseph’s House Community. The Deputy Director works directly with the Executive Director, nurses, social worker, staff, residents, community friends, and community partners. The Deputy Director assists the Executive Director in managing and administering the daily operations of Joseph’s House in order to meet the quality of care, financial, and legal, standards expected from residents, government authorities, and private foundations.
Responsibilities :
Program Management and Service Delivery
Provide information, advice, and counsel to the Executive Director and management in the planning, development, and operation of Joseph House servicesSupport the organization's daily operations to ensure smooth and efficient functioningOversee coordination of delivery of other community-based services on behalf of individual residents.Staff Supervision and Development
Recruit, train, and supervise staff, ensuring adherence to best practicesOversee activities of multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesiveness of team and efficiency of organizational processesIn concert with key staff, assess referrals and welcome new residents. Supervise, support and evaluate social worker, licensed therapist, and addictions counselor Ensure administrative and social work responsibilities are being completed in a timely manner using innovative and compassionate approaches to mitigating barriersIdentify staff training needs and create access to educational opportunities to promote evidence-based, trauma-informed care in line with our program goals. Collaborate with staff and external stakeholders to identify additional opportunities for programmatic innovation and expansion that represent our values of Love, Advocacy, Service, Welcome and Growth. Identify areas for organizational improvement and implement effective processes / plans to move the organization forwardFinancial and Administrative Oversight
Assist with grant applications and funding efforts, while also managing monthly program data entry and reportingActively engage with stakeholder and participate in community outreach initiativesConduct and / or participate in staff and community meetingsDocument all service activities provided to community members for funding purposesCommunity and Stakeholder Engagement
Build rapport and establish trusting respectful relationships with clients and familiesParticipate in evaluating prospective, new, and existing clients based on their needs, barriers, and goalsAssist in developing an individualized discharge plan for every residentDevelop and regularly update a Service Plan for every community memberAddress client concerns and goals in real time using effective communication skills with client and nurse case management teamIdentify appropriate community-based resources for community members (housing, counseling / treatment, employment) andadvocate for these resources
Regulatory Compliance and Safety

At least 5 years case management and community outreach experienceA background in public health or nursing is preferredA minimum of 2 years working with vulnerable populations to include homelessness, substance use, mental illness, and HIV / AIDSExperience in fundraising, as well as participating in and speaking at meetings and panel discussionsPrevious experience as Deputy Director a plus.Required Skills / Abilities :

We are seeking candidates who are local to the DC Metro area. This is a hybrid position, requiring a few days in the office each week with some flexibility in scheduling.
Salary : $88,000 - $100,000
