About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Companion Animal Support Professional to join our team at Joveo CPA - ASPCA (A). As a Companion Animal Support Professional, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to canines recovering from animal cruelty at our Recovery & Rehabilitation Center.
This is an in-person position located in Pawling, NY with a focus on delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring a safe and compassionate environment for animals and staff.
Main Responsibilities:
Collaborate with behavior and sheltering colleagues to provide holistic and balanced care for animals and a cohesive team culture
Develop and maintain effective communication systems with the behavior team using objective language
Monitor and report any issues related to animal welfare, including signs of illness, injury, and/or poor welfare
Provide hands-on support during exams, surgery, specimen collection, and humane euthanasia procedures
Administer oral and topical medications under the direction of a veterinarian and in accordance with all state and federal laws
Assist with daily animal care, including feeding and medicating, as directed
Ensure medical areas are clean, organized, and ready for use
Assist with daily animal care, including feeding and medicating, as directed
Participate in daily rounds alongside behavioral and sheltering staff to provide integrated care
Regularly attend meetings to discuss case updates and coordinate care efforts
Requirements:
A minimum of one year's experience handling and restraining dogs in a veterinary or shelter setting
Veterinary Assistant experience preferred
Fear Free Veterinary certification required within 60 days of hire
Valid driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating safe driving
Ability and willingness to travel up to 5% of the time
Able to work a flexible schedule when needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to regularly witness animals suffering medically and/or behaviorally
Comfortable with humane euthanasia in theory and in practice
Displays concern for the safety and well-being of self, animals, and others, especially under stress
