We are seeking a Temporary Human Resources Director to cover maternity leave, ensuring smooth day-to-day HR operations while maintaining compliance, supporting staff, and assisting with hiring and onboarding.
Position Overview
The Temporary HR Director will oversee HR operations, ensuring a positive and supportive work environment while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. The focus will be on:
✔️ Talent acquisition (hiring, onboarding, and supporting staff recruitment)
✔️ Employee relations (addressing concerns, conflict resolution, and fostering engagement)
✔️ Compliance with employment laws and policies
✔️ Benefits and payroll support (helping staff navigate Paid Family Leave, short-term disability, etc.)
✔️ HR recordkeeping and administrative support
This temporary role ensures continuity in HR functions while the current HR Director is on leave. While major policy changes and long-term strategic initiatives will not be required, routine updates to the employee handbook to reflect existing policy changes and compliance requirements will be needed.
Key Responsibilities
🟢 Talent Acquisition & Onboarding:
- Support hiring managers in the recruitment, interview, and onboarding process.
- Ensure new employees are properly onboarded and oriented.
🟢 Employee Relations & Compliance:
- Act as a point of contact for HR-related inquiries and concerns.
- Assist in addressing employee relations issues and disciplinary matters.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
🟢 Payroll & Benefits Administration:
- Assist employees with benefits-related questions (Paid Family Leave, short-term disability, etc.).
- Work with payroll systems to maintain accurate attendance and records.
🟢 HR Administration & Support:
- Maintain confidential employee records and HR documentation.
- Keep job descriptions up to date and ensure policy compliance.
- Communicate HR-related updates to staff as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
✔️ Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
✔️ 2 years of HR experience (HR Coordinator, HR Generalist, or HR Manager preferred).
✔️ Experience in employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance.
✔️ Knowledge of NY employment laws and HR best practices.
✔️ Strong interpersonal skills – ability to engage and support staff effectively.
✔️ Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (BambooHR and PayCom experience a plus!).
✔️ Ability to work independently and manage multiple HR functions.
✔️ HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus but not required.
