Summary:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the management and execution of assigned product programs.Will coordinate and monitor technical matters, program costs, manpower, timing and the like to ensure successful development and launch of assigned products. The Engineering Manager will provide technical direction to the various engineering levels together with cross-functional departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Lead a team of engineers to execute all engineering deliverables of a customer/engineering program.
- Monitor and grow team member skill sets for job performance and career growth
- Measure and implement team metrics.
- Interface with program management organization on development of customer and program milestones.
- Provide transition and development requirements to Core Engineering.
- Identify skills required by JSS Engineers and hire new engineers ensuring the developed standards are met.
- Develop a uniform training program and system to continuously improve and strengthen the talent base within Engineering.
- Make Engineering presentations for technical quote reviews and support for advanced technology development.
- Develop a system for knowledge retention and best practices across customers.
- Support the Sales Team and other divisional personnel (Core Engineering, Operations Management, etc.) by reviewing Technical Specifications received during the quotation process, and providing input regarding product to be offered.
- Interface with the Program Managers to agree upon engineering resource levels required to satisfy the JSS internal process.
- Support awarded business by providing the previously agreed to Engineers to the program.
- Provide technical support and assistance to the Engineers.
- Ensure best practice designs are applied to application programs through the use of gold standards and lessons learned.
- Conduct periodic design reviews.
- Manage the Engineering resources level.
- Manage the Engineers’ performance process and coordinate weighted input from the core team leader and other relevant parties.
- Manage the Engineering departmental budget and budget creation.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership in implementing organizational, process, and technical improvements.
- Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
- Understanding of engineering and product development processes.
- Comfortable with initiating and implementing change.
- Understanding of product launch requirements, program management techniques, and impact of design on manufacturability, and total quality management.
- Strong communication skills, proven technical excellence and organization skills.
- Knowledge in DOE, CAE (FEA, CFD, etc.), problem solving/root cause analysis methods, GD&T.
- Financial systems experience.
- Ability to travel.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline is required.
- MBA or Master’s Degree in a technical discipline preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of related product design/engineering experience is required.
- Prior experience in occupant safety restraints or automotive interiors is preferred.
