What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Landfill Operator position at JRDA Landfill?
WORK LOCATION: JRDA Landfill - 6 miles west of Nephi
JOB DESCRIPTION: In accordance with state laws and regulations; receive and keep records of all Household and Construction & Demolition Waste delivered to the JRDA Landfill. Performs and ensures the following is accomplished.
The successful applicant shall screen and perform daily cover of solid waste in accordance with state laws and regulations. Performs general cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
When needed act as the landfill scale house gate attendant; assures appropriate admittance of public and waste collection contractors; operates scale to determine fees; enters hauler information into computer record; receives and receipts fees; calculates fees and charges customers according to established fee schedules according to estimated size and/content of waste loads; maintains detailed records of type of waste entering the landfill; prepares weekly invoices for haulers. Performs general bookkeeping and balancing of daily receipts and prepares daily reports; prepares daily bank deposit. Observes waste to identify hazardous waste or other materials excluded from deposit in public landfill. Monitors customer activities to assure compliance with established rules and regulations; operates radio and two-way communications as needed to alert equipment operators of suspicious activity or waste loads. Deals with public complaints; apprises public of landfill requirements and fees; resolves issues face-to-face or seeks supervisory assistance. Performs general cleaning and maintenance of scale-house. Performs other related duties as required.
The successful applicant shall: 1) screen incoming solid waste for Hazardous Materials to ensure customers are separating waste for disposal by waste type, 2) screen customers for fee payments and receive credit card payments, 3) Maintain records of all incoming waste, 4) Provide proper direction and education for landfill users in accordance with state laws and regulations. 5) Operate heavy equipment (816k Compactor, Track Loaders, Pressure washer) Ensure daily cover requirements. 6)Manage other in a professional manner. 7) Ensure a safe working environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent; Pass a background check and be bondable. Ability to work well with people and communicate effectively in both written and oral form. Must be willing to work on Saturdays. Must be a U.S. citizen. Random drug testing and pre-employment medical exam may be required.
Working Environment: This position requires working outside year-round. You will be exposed to cold and hot temperatures. Additionally, there are inherent hazards working in landfill enforcement. Flies, insects and other wildlife can be extensive. Rain, Snow, Dust, Mud and garbage will experienced. A clothing allowance is provided each year to cover some of your required footwear and clothing.
