Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to provide database support across various hardware and software platforms and peripherals. This role involves configuring, implementing, and managing IBM DB2 mainframe z/OS environments, supporting IBM application environments, and ensuring optimal system performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site database and system support for IBM DB2 mainframe z/OS environments.
- Support multiple IBM application environments and teams leveraging DB2 z/OS databases.
- Monitor, collect statistical information, and report on capacity and system performance.
- Make recommendations to maintain and improve capacity and system performance based on statistics.
- Monitor the system and respond to system and application automated alerts.
- Perform diagnostics, testing, and troubleshooting of software, operating system, and database issues.
- Plan and perform software installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching.
- Plan and perform database configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
- Perform and manage system and database backups.
- Execute manual switches to redundant system/database components in case of system failures.
- Participate in 24x7x365 on-call rotations for production support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 6 years of experience in database administration and architecture, including the use of IBM Utilities and Commands.
- Experience providing technical support for database administration and operations, including monitoring, maintenance, capacity planning, performance monitoring, and incident/problem resolution.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with IBM Data Studio, Broadcom/CA database administration tools, and TMON monitoring.
- Understanding of Help Desk tools and trouble ticket tracking processes.
- Understanding of support agreements and their implied service levels.
- Proven ability to write excellent technical documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively.
- Ability to work well with people from various disciplines and with varying degrees of technical experience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to mentor others.
- Action and results-oriented with good judgment under stress.
- Preferred knowledge of mainframe database products, including CA DB2 tools, TMON monitoring, and Data Studio.
