Youth Peer Specialists – YPS (Young Peer Specialist) provides individualized support for transition-aged youth up to 24 years old who have shared experiences in youth-serving systems like Behavioral Health, Foster Care, and Juvenile Detention. This shared background fosters empathy and enhances support effectiveness.

The program empowers youth to identify their needs, advocate for themselves, and connect with families, professionals, and community resources. YPS focuses on wellness and recovery, promoting personal safety, self-worth, confidence, and growth. Youth peer support specialists also collaborate with community resources and facilitate necessary referrals for comprehensive support.

Specific Duties

  • Assist client in all stages of their returning to the community after incarceration.
  • Transport and/or escort participants to court appearances, support with job search, and support with community meetings and services as needed.
  • Assist participants with general issues that may impair their reintegration processes * Helps client to establish healthy social connections and assist clients in life skills by demonstrating a safe/sober lifestyle.
  • Complete required agency and program reports in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties as required/requested
  • High School Diploma/Ged or an equivalent combination of education and lived experience-well rooted in own recovery.
  • A min of 5 years working with substance abuse and/or mental health and/or community preferred.
