PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the school nurse by assuming routine recordkeeping activities, providing minor first aid care, and conducting health screenings at campus levels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of basic first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Effective organizational and communication skills
- Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Ability to remain calm in an emergency situation
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Ability to perform skilled care procedures through the direction and guidance of the campus registered nurse
Experience:
- Minimum of (1) one year experience in health-related position
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA & HIPAA guidelines
- Follow procedures as outlined in the American Red Cross First Aid techniques
- Keep clinic clean and sanitary and assists with displays, bulletin boards, etc
- Post all health information on health cards as soon as possible
- Complete health services reports and referrals, as required by the proper agencies and school officials, regarding teen pregnancies, drug abuse, child abuse, communicable disease, and mental health problems
- Compile students health lists for distribution to faculty
- Update immunization records monthly and notifies parents of impending immunizations
- Assist with maintaining supply inventory and requesting supplies as needed
- Monitor vital signs of students and faculty if necessary
- Maintain a daily log of health office activities, including reportable accidents, communicable disease data, and referrals to school nurse
- Administer medication to conform with Board Policy
- Assist with and/or conduct screening activities including measuring height and weight, testing vision and hearing, and examining spinal cord and scalp to meet state requirements, makes referrals
- Use Universal Precautions Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care
- Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
- Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs
- Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
- Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervision and evaluation of district personnel is not a requirement of the position; however, the supervision of students is required.

- Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position

- Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute,
- Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
Physical Demands:
- Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling.
- Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds
Environmental Factors:
- Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
- Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)
