Summary Description :
The Financial Aid (FA) Counselor is responsible for all aspects of analyzing, awarding, disbursing and coordinating federal, state funds and all other private scholarships and loans.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to processing FAFSA applications for federal funds, analysis of award eligibility, file verification, and coordination of aid from various sources including the institution, state and outside sources according to federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
The FA Counselor is also responsible to certify alternative loans, including the coordination of federal loan entrance and exit counseling requirements, and signing of the Master Promissory Note both for students and parents.
Must be able to effectively communicate financial aid regulations and requirements to students and parents regarding all aspects of financial aid.
The FA Counselor is expected to become familiar with the Judson culture and to support its mission and goals.
Primary Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Has ability to provide quality customer service to students, parents, other departments and outside parties.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills to accurately convey information.
- Organizational skills, high attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multifaceted work environment.
- Two years of experience working with student services in a higher education setting or in a related industry is desired although not required
- Willing to learn the Federal Student Aid regulations as it relates to the exercise of the job responsibilities.
- Computer competency in MS Office is required (Word, Excel); experience with Jenzabar programs is desired although not required.
- Previous experience with term or non-term financial aid awarding is a plus but not required.
- Team player to the FA department and can perform other tasks as may be assigned.
- Willing to cross train handling different sets of Judson students and awarding different types of federal student aid, state grants and scholarships, private lenders and other organizations.
