Position Summary
The Financial Aid Services Counselor is responsible for representing the University and division of Enrollment Management to current and perspective families with regard to access, affordability, and financing options. This is a full-time position. Some evenings and weekend work required. The counselor reports to the Director of Financial Aid Services.

Serving as both a counselor and processing/regulatory technician, the Financial Aid Services Counselor embodies the core values of the university in every aspect of his/her role working with internal and external constituencies.

The Counselor will:

Partner with prospective and current students to obtain the necessary resources to finance their Roosevelt University education.

Increase student satisfaction and retention by providing exemplary customer service and proactive student finance and student support to a caseload of students.

Use exceptional discretion and independent judgment to evaluate each student’s financial profile to develop, recommend and implement a financing plan that will promote their engagement and success.

Provide information to students and parents as to the various options of financial aid and financing options.

Assist students with the completion of financial aid applications and payment plan agreements; be responsible for knowing and learning federal, state regulations and institutional policies related to financial aid awarding, verification, and student accounts.

Communicate the policies and procedures in a manner that displays understanding of the rationale and the value of the policy or procedure to the student Package and process student aid and student account requests in an efficient, accurate and timely manner.

Leverage technology and systems to effectively and efficiently service students and families.

Manage and maintain all functions associated with third party billing. This includes acting as the liaison for agencies, coordinating billing, and performing reconciliation for the tuition accounts.

Collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure a consistently outstanding educational experience for our deserving students.

Provide timely follow-up to resolve issues.

Coordinate financial aid outreach programs and provide college specific financial aid presentations at internal and external events.

Identify opportunities and solutions that improve current processes; Participates in special projects and campaigns Complete other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
A minimum of 1-year experience working in financial aid, student accounts or related experience.
Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt’s core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
A positive and professional demeanor with a strong emphasis on customer service is a must.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Banner financial aid module a plus.
Experience assisting students and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.

Office equipment (desktop computer, laptop, office copier/printer and phone)

Working Conditions
Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.
