General Purpose:
The Assistant Controller performs a variety of financial and accounting functions to assist and support the controller. Assumes principal responsibility for maintaining records for and performing reconciliations of cash, investments, capital expenditures, and fixed assets. Responsible for vendor maintenance and functions as point person in management and oversight of Accounts Payable portal. Serves as auditor for payroll biweekly and as needed backup for payroll activities. Posts journal entries, performs balance sheet reconciliations, maintains certain monthly annual schedules, and prepares draft financial statements for Judson Foundation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain daily cash logs and post entries
- Manage vendor additions and modifications in two systems
- Manage workflow maintenance of cloud based payables system
- Post bi-weekly payroll interface, accruals and 403(b) entries
- Reconcile employee receivables - payroll related accounts ,
- Audit the biweekly payroll and function as back-up to Payroll Manager as needed
- Serves as back up to Disbursement Specialist
- Review general ledger codes for Amazon and credit card purchases & post entries.
- Reconcile all cash accounts on a timely basis
- Record entries and prepare movement summary for investment account activities
- Review invoices charged to capital, as well as significant maintenance costs and reclassify as needed. Prepare monthly capital expenditure report by project code.
- Monitor and manage all aspects of accounting for various construction projects ensuring CIP and payables posted correctly.
- Assign useful lives to assets. Enter into software system. Assess for disposals (including bulk disposals per policy). Record entries to recognize depreciation expense.
- Judson Foundation - Post journal entries, maintain special purpose funds reconciliation, pledge receivable schedules and allocate endowment income
- Prepare monthly Judson Foundation financial statements and reports as requested
- Prepare and submit State of Ohio annual Unclaimed Funds filing
- Review annual issuing of 1099’s
- Assist with year end close, accurate expense accrual
- Assist with annual audit – manage & monitor preliminary information request and submittal
- Special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
A. Required Skills and Qualifications
- Seven or more years of professional accounting experience
- Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and banking processes
- Experience with fixed asset accounting and management
- Advance Microsoft Office skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)
B. Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment
- Ability to see, communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices.
- Office and facilities work environment.
- Minimal local travel between company sites from time to time
- Operation of numerous accounting software and ability to learn and implement new software
- Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs.
