Overview
The Child Nutrition Professional plays a vital role in nourishing young minds at our PreK-5th grade elementary school. This position involves creating nutritious, appealing meals that meet USDA school nutrition guidelines while accommodating diverse dietary needs. Duties
- Plan and prepare lunch meals that meet school nutrition guidelines and appeal to elementary students
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization according to health department standards
- Manage food inventory, place orders, and minimize waste
- Follow standardized recipes while ensuring consistent portion control
- Document and accommodate student allergies and special dietary needs
- Collaborate with school staff to support nutrition education initiatives
- Prepare food for special events and school functions as needed
- Maintain accurate production records and temperature logs
Qualifications
- Previous experience in school food service or commercial kitchen environment
- Knowledge of USDA nutrition guidelines for school meals preferred
- ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Understanding of food allergies and cross-contamination prevention
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact positively with children
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Schedule
- Monday-Friday during school year
- Hours typically 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM
- Some flexibility required for special events
